Youth Collective Identity and It’s Constructing of Gender, Family and Class Socialization (Case Study: 15-29 year old Youth in Golestan Province)

Abstract

The aims of this study are the specification salience of infra-national dimensions of collective identity in comparison with national and transnational dimensions, specification salience of infra-national dimensions in comparison with each other, specification salience of cognitive, emotional and behavioral aspects forming each infra-national dimension and also determining influence of socialization agents over formation of infra-national dimensions of collective identity and explanation relations existing between them. The population is selected from youth of Golestan province (15-29 years old) in 2012. Results show that infra-national dimensions of collective identity in three cognitive, emotional and behavioral aspects enjoy higher salience in proportion with national and international dimensions. Family is the main socialization mechanism in forming infra-national collective identity aspects; the satellite programs, educational system and programs of IRIB are the other mechanisms.
