Assessing the status of Payame Noor University of tehran in becoming the fourth generation of universities using fuzzy ANP technique

Abstract

Based on new vision of global higher education, gaining high-tech technology, economic growth and social welfare depends on higher education system improvement and conversion of existing generation
university into fourth generation university. In Iran, alongside with new vision of higher education system, in order to convert universities as innovative and entrepreneurial universities and commercialize the university research findings, different approaches has been undertaken, but outcome this process is still not remarkable.
In this view, The main aim of this research is recognition of factors and their impacts made a university as an fourth generation university. Therefore, after studying attributed literature and similar research’s done so far, the all probable specifications and indicators of fourth generation university distinguished and then by obtaining the experts point of view, comprehensiveness of those indexes and their impact on the process of being fourth generation university was recognized. The results of data analysis bring it apparent that having a sustainable strategy, a strong leadership and visible commitment of top management could be the most effective factors on process of being fourth generation university. At the end, in order to investigate the current situation of Tehran PAYAM NOOR university in connection with its progress of becoming fourth generation university, as a case study; in compliance with identified indicators, a survey conducted which results made it apparent that this fourth generation university success has not been significant.
