Abstract
This research strategically analyzes the role of the Society for the Appreciation of Cultural Works and Dignitaries (SACWD) in advancing soft power and strengthening the Islamic-Iranian national identity. It explores efforts to counteract the “cultural appropriation” of Iran's artistic and cultural heritage by other countries while identifying and introducing domestic capacities to project an effective image of Iranian culture and art internationally. The primary goal is to identify and evaluate the components of the Doctrine of National Branding and Islamic-Iranian national identity. This study further aims to propose an operational framework for enhancing SACWD's executive and media initiatives to better showcase Iran's cultural and artistic heritage globally. Using a descriptive-analytical methodology, this study relies on documentary and field research. Data were collected from the activities of SACWD during 2017-2021. The findings indicate that while SACWD has played a pivotal role in preserving and promoting national identity, its organizational structures and international communication networks require significant strengthening. The research recommends the establishment of a coordinated framework to leverage Iran’s cultural and media capacities in collaboration with international organizations such as UNESCO and ISESCO. Such a framework could not only enhance Iran’s national branding but also prevent the misrepresentation and appropriation of its tangible and intangible heritage. Furthermore, the creation of networks comprising artists, researchers, and cultural institutions both within and beyond Iran could bolster soft power and deliver a unified narrative of Iranian-Islamic culture on the global stage.
