Abstract
The emphasis on enhancing national self-esteem, national identity, and the spirit of resistance is among the key cultural and social concepts of the general policies outlined in the Seventh Development Plan. In this regard, fostering talents, improving the cultural level of veterans and their children, and "promoting and strengthening the culture of sacrifice and jihad while organizing veterans' affairs" are categorized as primary objectives of the general policies of the system. This article aims to define the socially constructed identity of the children of martyrs, identify the foundations of their identity formation, and align their identity-related outcomes with the strategic objectives of the system’s general policies.
This research was conducted using a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews, in which 25 children of martyrs participated—15 women and 10 men. Participants were selected purposefully using the snowball sampling method.
The findings indicate that the official definition of the children of martyrs is shaped by social construction, yet its components contain contradictions that influence cultural identity formation outcomes. There exists a form of resistance against the official narrative concerning the children of martyrs and the objective reality of their lives.
